I am way too much of a geek.

I came across this graph on a humor site I frequent.

song chart memes

My first response is that "This graph is incorrect. You cannot measure the chances of Shrodinger's Cat being alive or dead because that state is not observable, thus not measurable."

Ouch...what a geek!

For those of you who don't get it...

I agree with one thing ... you are a serious geek ... however, I must defend the chart maker as the legend clearly states *chances* of the cat being alive or dead.

Shrodinger's Cat would have 100% chance of being alive or dead before the measurement took place. Once the box was open, the measurement could be taken and the legend would then simply be 'Alive' or 'Dead'.

I am sorry, but I must disagree (respectfully as always). To get very specific, the two bars represent an AND not an OR. Thus, the graph indicates that the cat has a 100% chance of being alive and a 100% chance of being dead.

100% is a degree of measurement. How can you measure something you cannot observe? To put it into Oracle sql terms, the state of Shrodinger's Cat is NULL (unknown). Therefore it cannot be equal/not equal, less than/not less than nor greater than/not greater than to anything (such as a percentage measurement).

Ah .. but these are quantum bars and in quantum world the cat is considered alive AND dead until measurement confirms otherwise. Therefore the quantum cat has a 100% chance of being in both states until proven otherwise.

Had Shrodinger built an Oracle database to model the various states of the cat, a state of null would be the best representation in the moment prior to opening the box. On the other hand, if the state of the cat is unknown, then the quantum physicist would have to concede that he did not have the answer. Not sure they're allowed to do that :)

And you say I have too much time on my hands!

Should you not be spending this time creating an Oracle (obviously) based solution to the Financial issues of the world, which is also a complete and unmeasurable unknown?
